About Mad Dog Mesa

Mad Dog Mesa is the home of Robert P. (Bob) Day Jr and Amy Bridge Day. The ranch is comprised of 105 acres where we live, farm and are in the continual process of restoring the land and removing it from the fire cycle. We engage in "earth friendly" farming practices by conserving water, using only organic fertilizers, recycling and composting. As we remove the land from the fire cycle, we chip and compost tree and brush material. We make every attempt not to burn brush and tree trimmings.

We care for all of our trees ourselves and follow all organic practices. We are in the process of applying for organic status. We do not use any herbicides or pesticides on any of our trees or anywhere on our ranch. Our fertilizers and weed control are all organic. We differ from many other agricultural endeavors in that we have planted our olive trees within an existing Oak Woodland. This is a more difficult and costly approach but we think it is better to protect our vanishing Oak Woodlands.

We have planted many trees on our ranch including but not limited to - Bur Oak, Scarlett Oak, Red Oak, Black Oak, Cork Oak, Blue Oak, Raywood Ash, Sunset Maple, Western Incense Cedar, Tupelo Sour Gum, Liquid Amber, Chestnut, Redwood (Coastal and High Sierra), Chinese Pistache, Red Fir, White Fir, Sycamore, Redbud, Autumn Fantasy, Forest Pansy, Dogwood, Crepe Myrtle, Ginkgo, Big-leaf Maple, Doug Fir, Ponderosa Pine, and Lace Leaf Maple. We are growing a variety of oaks, cedars and firs for sale in our tree nursery.
